Hukoomi, Qatar’s e-Government Portal, recently awarded the winners of a special Instagram competition to inspire users to capture Qatar National Day celebratory moments.

Take a look at the Hukoomi National Day Celebrations Photo Album.

The competition attracted over 400 submissions from Hukoomi users in Qatar and the winning entries were selected based on the number of “likes” received for each entry. This was the first time, Hukoomi used Instagram to engage its users. The Instagram competition was part of a large number of interactive activities organized by Hukoomi. The key to the activities was a comprehensive website dedicated to all national day celebrations in Qatar. An events calendar was created to raise awareness about the various related initiatives even by other agencies and organizations. Another key initiative was Hukoomi Majlis, a dedicated booth set up at Katara Cultural Village, which provided a one-stop shop for all citizens and residents to discover the various National Day festivities.

The booth, which was operational from December 13 to 18, 2012, offered an opportunity to the visitors to create their personal photos via an augmented reality photo booth. Free e-greeting cards were available via Hukoomi, providing visitors with an opportunity to send National Day greetings to family, friends and relatives. Organized at the beach area in Katara, the Hukoomi booth was accessible to the disabled, as a reflection of Hukoomi’s mission of serving everyone regardless of their disabilities.

“Hukoomi is a direct reflection of our leaders’ commitment to their citizens and to making the government more transparent, responsive and efficient,” said Reem Al Mansoori, Government Portal Manager at ictQATAR, adding, “Our National Day activities this year were meant to inspire and interact with users by helping them express what the National Day meant to them. We are delighted at the positive feedback that these activities have garnered and we look forward to serving our constituents better and more efficiently in the future”. Following the success of the National Day celebrations, Al-Mansoori informed that Hukoomi is currently undergoing a review of business, consumer and government needs and how well they are reflected in terms of the e-service offerings on the portal.

There are exciting new developments being planned right now which indeed make Hukoomi an integral part of Qatar’s populace. Hukoomi is the official government web portal of Qatar and serves as an interface to connect residents with government services, programs and initiatives. Hukoomi works with other government agencies and public service providers to continually enhance the services provided. Hukoomi is a dedicated resource for detailed information about Qatari law, contact information for government entities, foreign embassies, well as government events and announcements.

The portal’s popularity is also because of the availability of convenient online services allowing people to pay their utility bills, submit official applications, renew health cards, settle traffic violations, and apply for visas, commercial registrations, licenses, permits and other official documents instantly.
